Above: Juan M. and Mary on their wedding day in front of the home of the iconic Pamela Colman Smith, an editor, artist, folklorist, and the designer of the Waite-Smith Tarot Deck.We met on 9 November 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to city restrictions and despite the cold weather, our first date was on the patio at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. We quickly became obsessed with each other, and Mary moved in with Juan only 10 days later.After celebrating our first year together, we began planning our move to London and actually relocated there with our pets in August 2022. We celebrated our second anniversary in our empty Highgate flat, filled with lots of excitement for the future. We hosted many holidays and garden parties, and London will forever remain one of the most important places in the world for us.On 10 September 2023, we got engaged at home. A year later, while preparing to move to Mexico, we eloped in a small and intimate ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall on 25 October 2024. We moved to Mexico City only a few weeks later.We visited Sevilla together for the first time in March 2024 and immediately knew this place was the perfect spot to celebrate our decision to spend the rest of our lives together.We have lived in three different cities, and because of this, many of our friends and family have not had an opportunity to meet each other. We look forward to finally having all the people we love together in one place for an incredible three days in this magical city.

Our Story

For 30th Juan's birthday, in lieu of a birthday card, I gave him an inscribed copy of The Little Prince. A few months later, he reciprocated the gesture. From there began our tradition of gifting each other inscribed books instead of cards.

The Proposal

On 10 September 2023, we became engaged. This was completely unexpected, as I had just spent the weekend away at the Jane Austen festival in Bath with a friend. On that fateful Sunday night, while enjoying a Sainsbury's meal deal (chicken caesar salad sandwich, if anyone cares), I had picked up on the way home, I made my way through Juan's incredibly thoughtful proposal before enthusiastically agreeing.

To propose, Juan had inscribed and annotated a copy of Great Women Writers, designing a sort of scavenger hunt through the book. On each entry of an artist named Mary in the book, Juan integrated a memory from our time together. Finally, on Marie-Denise Viller's Etude de femme d'après nature, the big question was displayed. He had cut out sections from the pages before and after to accommodate the ring, which he had tied around the ankle of the woman in the portrait who was tying her laces. He cleverly placed the ring here to signify "tying the knot."Thank you to my husband; only you could have dreamed up such a perfect proposal for me.

TRAVELLING TO SEVILLA

From EuropeMost major European cities will have a direct flight to Sevilla. From North AmericaAs Sevilla is a smaller city, there are no direct flights from North America. You'll need to do a layover somewhere. There are direct flights from large North American cities to Madrid or Barcelona. You may choose to take a connecting flight or, if you prefer trains, the journey to Sevilla is 2-3 hours from Madrid and 5-6 hours from Barcelona.

TRAVELLING IN SEVILLA

Sevilla is extremely walkable! However, there is a streetcar that goes across the city with 22 stops. Tickets are available from the driver or in kiosks near the stops beginning from €1.30. You may find that taxis are difficult to come by in Sevilla, especially during peak hours. There are taxi ranks scattered throughout the city and you can hail them on the street. Securing a taxi often isn't immediate. Bolt and Uber are both available in Sevilla but similar to the Taxis, please plan to leave extra time for calling your Uber.

ACCOMODATIONS IN SEVILLA

There are many fantastic hotel and Airbnb options in Sevilla. We recommend staying in an accommodation north of the river. We recommend the following neighbourhoods: Santa Cruz, San Bernardo, Museo, Alfalfa, and San Bartolome.

Super delicious food! In a beautiful old house with unforgettable decor. Open Sunday to Thursday from 1:00 PM - 2:30 AM or Friday and Sunday from 1:00 PM - 3:30 AM.

There are many signature drinks to try while you're in town! You might like to try vino de naranja (orange wine--white wine flavoured with orange), tinto de verano (Summer Red--a light, wine-based cocktail), and, of course, sangria!
